Home Decorating TV Shows

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 19th, 2010

There are many different TV shows that help you decorate your home. For instance Clean House. It helps you get rid of the many things that you don’t need anymore. And once you’d get rid of those things you will have much more room. Once they gather all of the items you have selected to get rid of, they put them in a yard sell. Then out of the money that you make from the yard sell, they will use to but new things that will enhance you home.
Another home decorating show is “trading spaces” it picks two families that would like a chance for their home to be redecorated. They switch houses and gets to decorate it anyway they want to. However they only have two days. Then the last day is reveling day, they see how each family did.
These shows are sometime very useful when you are low on cash and your house really needs some fixing up to do. You should really consider going on these shows it would be a lot of help. You could get your house remodeled for free! You wouldn’t have to worry about any kind of bill. Wouldn’t it be very cool to be able to get a chance to get almost a completely new house for no cost?
Again this could also be a very bad idea to go on a TV decorating show. Sometimes when other people decorate your house they don’t know what you would like. And they decorate it how they would like it or how they think you like it. And than when it comes to reveling day, you might not like your new house at all! And then if you don’t what could you do? You could either live with it the rest of you time living there, or you could spend thousands on fixing it just they way you want it. So when you want your house fixed up I would really give it time to think. Because you just might not like how they have redecorated your house.
You will want to make sure that you check out the pros and cons of going on a home decorating show because you may not like what you get in the end. You will want to check out the ratings of the show and also think about how many people are going to see the inside of your home. It is very important that you thoroughly think about what you going to go through with this type of show before you decide to agree to doing the show. Also, keep in mind that they can do whatever they want to your home and they don’t have to replace it if you are upset with their creativity and design.

Home Decorating for the Independent Personality

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 19th, 2010

Putting your personality into your house is the best way to make it a home. Whether you’re using your own muse or someone else’s put yourself into everything you create at home for a relaxing life experience.
One of the first things I realized about home decorating-after my three thousand or so attempts at making my place look like all the pictures from the magazines-is that home decorating should reflect your personal style. Your home should reflect who you are and what you love.
Of course, I’m not saying that this revelation made me prance around my house with two cans of pink and yellow paint or that I plastered bunnies and butterflies everywhere-and yes, I do actually love pink, yellow, bunnies and butterflies-but I did put a little bit of myself into every room.
I got a certain sense of personal satisfaction from painting my ugly orange countertops a vibrant country red that matched my lust for life and the décor I actually wanted to toss around my kitchen. And my own personal works of art-paintings, photographs, sculptures-are set up around my place as well, giving it just that look of being lived in by somebody who loves and experiences life.
Of course, I recognize that we can’t all spend our evenings splashing around in water colors, or spend our weekends chasing a gaggle of baby quails about the yard trying to take their pictures.
That’s why there are professional designers out there who dedicate their lives to creating home décor that other people can use to express themselves and their individuality. And it’s okay to buy your curtains and blankets if you don’t know how to sew-crafty as I am, I still bought all my curtains and most of my blankets.
Of the things I love most in my home, my furniture doesn’t even come close to counting. It’s the accessories in my home that make it look like I personally live there and that no one else can shake my individuality.
One of my favorite items is a cotton area rug I recently purchased on a trip to the Deep South. This area rug was handmade in mills in the Deep South, where the cotton was picked fresh, milled in a southern mill, cleaned, spun and woven all by the same family of rug makers. When the bed is too hot at night, I frequently sleep on this rug and it makes me feel like I’m back in the Deep South all over again.
I realize that area rugs are not for everyone, but it can be an excellent place to start in learning to develop a personality for your home that meshes with your own personality rather than clashing and making you feel uncomfortable in your own home.
Different types of accessories are truly the way to bring out your personality in your home. Whether it is an area rug, artwork, photographs, drapery, throw pillows or knick knacks that represent different moments in your life, you can always find a way to make yourself feel at home if you just put a little bit of yourself into your own home.

Home Decor Gift

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

Framed Friendship Poem is a lovely Home decor gift. An Inspirational Friendship poem like, “Angels Are Friends” makes a wonderful gift for a special friend! The first verse of this poem reads “Angels are all around me, Some I cannot see. Always near or by my side, Gently helping to be my guide.” The poem goes on like that to end with the last line reading “No need for wings, my ‘Angels’ Are Friends.” Expressing a friend as an angel with out wings is to show true appreciation. Sometimes, saying “Thank You” is not enough to express your gratitude. At times, most of us find it difficult to find the right words to show our appreciation. So giving a gift is another form of appreciation and the poem in that will express the appreciation in words. My inspiration in suggesting this lovely Home decor gift came from my Dear Friend Isabel!

A table lamp will also make a great Home decor gift. There are many exquisitely designed table lamps at incredibly low prices. Some of these lamps are inspired by treasured antique Tiffany lamps. The sculpted base and stained glass shade of a table lamp lend warm light and a graceful glow to your home. This table lamp comes with a metal base with glass shade. It uses one 60 watt bulb and is 14 inches diameter by 20 inches high.

Another Home decor gift is an item for the garden. Garden decor gifts like garden decorations, garden statues, planters, garden accessories, garden gnomes, garden fairies and garden sculptures make wonderful gifts. Something for everyone to decorate their yards, driveway entrances, and doorways with eye catching garden sculptures.

The ideal place to find Home decor gift is to go online. The internet is a great source of encouragement to find exactly what you want and at the price you want. So when you are looking for a Home decor gift first try the online stores. You are always bound to find the right gift

Home Decorating Ideas: 101

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

Your home should be somewhere for you to fully relax, and not just something that you moved into some time ago and still doesn’t feel comfortable. Regardless of its size or location, a home needs to feel like a palace! The way to do this is not to spend extortionate amounts of money on lavish works of art, but simply to decorate it how you would like, and with today’s home design boom, there are plenty of options for you to try.

As with all big projects, home decoration needs a bit of thought put into it, which includes some good research. You need to decide on a theme that you like, as all homes are centred around some sort of theme even though you may not realise. You can do this by reading through decorating magazines and books, and watching programmes about decorating on TV, and soon you will find that one style sticks out to you more than the others.

All themes are linked very closely with a colour scheme, which is the next thing that you need to consider when decorating your home. You will be aware that for example an Indian theme has many reds, dark blues and blacks, whereas a Mediterranean theme would have mainly whites, yellows and oranges. Whichever theme you choose, you need to link it with some particular colours to avoid your home looking disjointed and out of place.

Creativity is vital in the decoration process, and you need to play around with possibilities. If the house was originally built with a dining room and a huge kitchen, that doesn’t mean that you have to use the dining room for what it was intended if you plan to eat in the space you have in the kitchen. Think about what else you could use that defunct dining room for; a study perhaps, or a home library.

Ok, so you’ve decided exactly how each room is going to look and what you are going to use it for. The next step is to decide which room you are going to decorate first and what you need for it. So empty the room, as you won’t want to be climbing over furniture to paint the walls, and head down to your local DIY shop, where you can buy supplies. First you will need paint or wallpaper.

With regards to applying the paint, you will need some sort of brush, pad or roller. If you go with brushes, buy decent quality ones that don’t shed bristles. If you don’t you will end up with just the handle of a brush left, and a wall textured with all the bristles, which is why for larger walls pads or rollers are recommended, so you don’t need to worry about bad brushes. Pads and rollers also make the job much quicker, although rollers can be very messy, so anything in the room, including you, needs to be fully covered up.

But don’t jump straight in with painting the walls, make sure that you know exactly what is going to go in the room first, as you wouldn’t forgive yourself if you had just finished painting the walls, were out buying a new tin of paint, and spotted a lovely table in the furniture shop next door, that really didn’t go with the colour.

The most important thing about decorating is to make it enjoyable. Not only will the task be much less arduous, but you will also end up with a better product. So have some fun, do it with a friend, and then when you have finished a particular room, use it for a couple of days and enjoy your creation before starting on the next one.

Home Decorating On A Budget

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

For those who are trying to decorate a home, but need to stick to a specific budget may want to learn how to approach the art of buying decorating accessories and items. You will want to think about setting your budget together before you end up buying things to decorate. You will find that there are some things that you will want to purchase to go cheap when it comes to decorating. You will want to keep a few ideas in mind and you will also want to sit down with some mail catalogs and other magazines to see if there is anything that interests you. You will want to make sure that you consider the budget with every purchase that you make.
When it comes to home decorating you will want to focus on the areas that people are going to see on a regular basis. You will want to make sure that you first take care of the entry-level rooms first, because most people do not go upstairs when just a guest. You will find that there are many ways that you will be able to decorate, even the smallest of spaces, however, you will want to keep the three basic decorating tips in mind.
First, you will need to keep in mind fabric. Fabric is a cheap and easy way for you to be able to make a dramatic effect in any room. You will be able to add a whimsical look to any room and it is very nice to add bunting fabric in the setting rooms and in the family rooms.
Secondly you will find that candles are cheap and easy to use in the decor of your home. It makes any home seem more like a family home and you will also find that there are tons of ways to use the candles. You can use candles to make a dramatic effect as well. You will be able to keep you home decorating simple with candles, but you will at least be able to give the home a clean, country look or rustic medieval look.
When it comes to mirrors you will be able to sue them to your advantage. You should be able to use the mirrors in a way that will allow you to play around with the size of a room. Mirrors tend to make small or narrow rooms seem so much bigger. You will want to keep in mind that these tricks are used in practically any home. You’ll love the fact that people see your room differently over a couple candles and a good-sized mirror. You will find that this is a great and cheap way of doing things.

Creole Home Decorating Ideas to Try Out

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

Of all the styles of architecture and decorating around the world very few have taken the best of all the others and made it a little bit better in quite the way that the style often referred to as “French Creole” has managed to do. The truth is that while this style of architecture that New Orleans is famous for is really heavily borrowed from many other cultures and yet uniquely New Orleans at the same time.

Creole architecture for many brings to mind intricate wrought iron work, long shutters (to cover the windows during hurricanes originally), huge windows and doors (these were designed larger than typical homes in other parts of the country in order to create breezeways for the wind to come through in the sweltering hot summer months), and bright colors that you aren’t likely to find in most million dollar neighborhoods. This style of architecture and home décor is also famous for huge balconies-also with wrought iron railing.

The amazing thing about the Creole style of home decorating is that there is no one identifiable feature that labels a design style as decidedly Creole. Lagniappe is a term that people here quite often in and around New Orleans. For those who do not know, it means “a little something extra”. From an extra donut to a freebie bookmark and many things in between, that little something extra has a long history in New Orleans from the architecture to the music there always seems to be a little something extra that you couldn’t get anywhere else.

The interior design style of the Creole is also very similar. Some consider it gaudy but the locals consider it that little something extra and it is. You may find a little Gothic style, a little bit of Jazz, and a whole lot of Mardi Gras in one room and it s quite all right because you are getting all that and just a little bit of lagniappe too. Home decorating in Creole country is an art form that defies logic and yet makes perfect sense for the rich culture and heritage that it encompasses.

For those that need a little inspiration who would love to incorporate a little Cajun or Creole spice into their living spaces, perhaps the following suggestions will prove to be helpful.

1) Red peppers. Nothing says spice quite like a red pepper. There are all kinds of items you can find with red peppers in them these days from wallpaper borders to hand blown glass peppers, jar toppers, pot holders, kitchen towels, strings of lights for patios-even kitchen canisters decorated with red peppers. There are all kinds of options available to incorporate this theme into your home or one room of your home.

2) Music notes. Most people cannot think of Cajun country without thinking of the music that calls this great section of the country home. Music notes are a great way to symbolize the music that made New Orleans famous.

3) Mardi Gras Masks. Many people find that New Orleans symbolizes Mardi gras in their hearts and minds though New Orleans is not the birthplace of Mardi gras. The masks are a way that people from around the country can bring the ’spirit of New Orleans’ home with them and decorate their homes with that attitude that can only be referred to as Creole in many hearts and minds.

4) Food. Believe it or not the food is as much a part of the Creole home as any other design element. For this reason a French Creole style kitchen is often the way to go when it comes to home decorating in the Creole fashion. The kitchen is the heart of a Cajun home and food is what makes it that heart. Use jars of beans, rice, pastas, and other lagniappe as part of the overall design and you might just be amazed at just how Creole the room begins to look.

Bringing the Old West to Modern Home Decorating

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

What could be more fun when you think about it than incorporating the age-old story of cowboys and Indians into your home décor? For those who love a great story and have a wild sense of adventure this could be an incredibly fabulous design theme for your next home decorating project. This is a great way to bring the rustic charm of the old west into the modern world of today’s busy lifestyles. Immediately visions of the hacienda with knotty pine and leather upholstered furniture comes to mind. Massive fireplaces and antlers everywhere are also first and foremost in my mind when this design idea pops into my head. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination and only limited by your budget in all honesty. This is a look that could be pulled off however on almost any budget for those that are willing to make a few thrift store purchases along the way while investing a fair amount of elbow grease. One thing you want to be careful of with this particular theme is not taking it too far. This could be so easy to do and it will only subtract from the charm and appeal if you do so. Choose the accessories carefully but implement them minimally. This should also help with potential budget restrictions as well as keep you on track for finding the perfect accessories rather than picking up everything you see only to find later that many simply will not work with the style and design you are hoping to achieve in the long run.Wood floors and wood paneled walls are a great statement for this sort of décor as well as stone for a fireplace (if there is a fireplace of courses). You want solid furniture rather than something that appear fragile or dainty and you definitely want to keep the room masculine in appearance if at all possible. Home decorating in the style of the old west isn’t for bachelors alone but too much of a feminine touch will simply kill the appeal all together. In fact, the less feminine touches the better save these touches for a romantic bedroom or bathroom rather than the primary areas that friends and family will visit. You will also want to take great pains to imitate the rustic nature of the old west within the kitchen. No delicate china patterns or tables with legs that look like that might fall off with a hard wind. This is a ‘mans’ style of decorating and it needs to look as though it will withstand any punishment a man can dish out in order to maintain the fun and light appeal of the remainder of the home. You can find modern sinks, fixtures, and hardware that are designed to resemble those of the old west and beyond if you look in the right places. For those who are looking for something a little out of the ordinary this is one style of decorating that definitely fits the bill. See what wonderful schemes and dreams you can come up with and what sort of tall tale will go along with your old west design story then create the story within the walls of your home. There is no better way to go about home decorating than this.

Country Home Decor

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

Country home decor is a unique collection woodcraft’s and gifts. This includes reproductions of Game Board, Rusted Tin Signs, nostalgic Metal Signs and Country Kitchen decor. There are many companies that specialize in Country home decor. Such companies are present in every city. With the advent of modern technology you wind more companies dealing in Country home decor online. When you buy Country home decor online, you can be in for lot of surprises as well. Recently a lady, from Ontario in Canada purchased a teak wood reproduction of an antique piece of furniture. She bought this online from a company that was based in Chicago in the United States of America. The reproduced piece of furniture was shipped to her from Amsterdam in Holland. When she received the furniture she found that the certificate of origin that came with the shipping documents stated that the reproduction was done in Moratuwa in Sri Lanka with teak timbre imported from Rangoon in Burma. This piece of furniture had traveled many thousands of miles before it reached the end user. Now you can see that the Country home decor purchased online had the involvement of five countries. This is how the online business works and how small the world had become due to modern technology.

Country home decor is indeed a delight to own. It brings nostalgic memories of the golden past for many old people. It brings to memory the good times they had as school children and how slow the time passed during that era. Unlike the rat race of today, people took things very lightly. There was little or no violence. Moral values were upheld. People valued their culture and lived contended lives. Divorce was abhorred while marriages lasted for many years. Couples celebrating their silver wedding anniversaries and even golden wedding anniversaries were common. Today couples celebrating their first wedding anniversary are becoming scarce. Love was accepted as a give and take. It was never demanding as today. The young respected the elders. The elders loved the young and were role models.

Country home decor in a house makes the house a home. The home becomes very cozy and if the architecture of the house too has contemporary style then the setting would be perfect. Today many people are buying dismantled old teak wood door and window frames from hoses that are demolished only to be placed in new homes. It becomes another form of Country home decor.

A Cabin Theme for Your Home Decorating Needs

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

When it comes to home decorating there is one thing that must be said-people seem to long for the simple life and cabin living. Of all the styles of decorating and décor this is one that seems to be repeated most often but in different ways. Seriously there are all kinds of ‘cabin’ décor websites, magazines, brochures, books, and how to videos all over the place than probably any other style of decorating. One reason for the phenomenal popularity of this particular type of home decorating style probably has a little bit to do with the simplicity of it. There are no hard and fast rules, there aren’t fancy faux finishes and textured painting that needs to be done in order to complete the look and there aren’t overly complicated rules for what is and isn’t acceptable. From the bear budget to the champagne and caviar crowd there is some sort of décor available that will suit not only the home decorating needs but also the need for quality as well. Another thing that many find appealing about a cabin themed home decorating plan is that it simply exudes warmth year round. From the dark colors to the flannel materials and the soft homespun simplicity of the design many find it simply irresistible. One thing that is obvious in this style of decorating is that it appeals to those who love home and hearth and warmth and good will far more than modern touches and design elements. This is not a hard plastic sort of design style and it shouldn’t endeavor to become one as the two styles are almost systematically opposed to one another. If you want the warmth of a Montana cabin in your home every day of the year this is one great way to do it. Bring the bears, the moose, and all the furry forest friends to frolic in your living room, on your light fixtures, and in your dreams as you fall into restful sleep each night. From the bedroom to the bathroom and the kitchen in between the cabin style of home decorating is one that is making great waves in the market place. You will find many stores online and locally that cater to the cabin loving audience for hardware, knick-knacks, and what knots galore. The thing to remember is that the design essence isn’t the little touches you add along the way, it’s the warmth of wood, fire, leather, and wrought iron. These are the materials that will establish the cabin appeal more quickly than any of the little touches you can add along the way. Drywall and plaster simply cannot carry the look. Knotty pine or some other rich style of wood is the best option for walls when pulling off a cabin home appeal. More importantly than anything though is the need to include a little bit of yourself in the design. Do not hesitate to carve your initials with a heart into the wood of your walls. It is one more thing that will be not only endearing but also appropriate to the home and the atmosphere. There is a type of innocence about a cabin style home and the little touches such as that will leave a lasting impression.

Home Decorating Makes A House Your Home

Posted by | Decor | Posted on February 18th, 2010

Home Decorating and even holiday decorating are more a testament to our continuing affluence than anything. Back in

years gone by, our homes were considered places to stay and live, not as an extension of our own personalities. Back

then, homes were also built all as custom homes, that is, the age of the tract housing boom had not yet taken root. Therefore, even if the older homes were not as lavishly decorated, they still maintained a level of distinction due to the custom building of that era.

Moving into the late 20th century, WW-2 had just ended and dropped a lot of young men and women back into the country with new found abilities to afford their own homes via the GI bill. This huge demand caused the housing booms that resulted all cross the country. The good thing was that these homes were inexpensive but the negative was that the tract home was born. thousands of cookie cutter sameness soon dotted the land almost everywhere people were interested in living. This in turn drove the need for some type of distinction to make the new homes somehow different and a statement of their new owners. The age of home decorating had finally come to the working class.

A home is cozier and more comfortable than any other place. We build our homes with the utmost care and sincerity. After all, it is a place where we spend most of our lives. Home decorating means a lot to the owner. It also demands hard work and devotion, as it is not an easy task. Decorating includes both the interior as well as exterior aspects.

Initially, home decorating started off simply as changing the paint or wallpaper but has led to a boom in furnishings, artwork, collectibles and even flooring materials. Just the range of available flooring options is incredible. You can choose from marble, granite tiles, bricks, slates, concrete, or steel. To add more color, suitable carpets can be spread. Rugs can be used to complement them. So before, basic flooring was acceptable, in our quest for making our home truly ours, we have needed to remodel, rebuild, rework and otherwise redesign almost everything in our homes.

Walls, pillars, and other standouts can be decorated using artifacts, paintings or wall hangings. Modern art is becoming a common choice. And it’s not just the living room, but every part of the home now gets the star treatment. This includes, new rooms for babies, teens, young adults, toddlers and children.

In the end, what we really want is to open the door after a hard days work and say….Home at Last!
