When you’re serious about working as a freelancer, you need a great home office. It needs to be well supplied to help your productivity. Whether your home office is nothing more than a desk in the family room or it’s a room away from all the noise, a good home office makes a big difference.
Pretty much anyone working as a freelancer these days will need a good computer. You probably have one already, but if you need to get a separate one for your business you will want to consider your needs before you make a purchase. How much power do you need? What programs are important?
One of my own favorite questions is “how many monitors?” Most home computers really only need one monitor, but many freelancers get by better with two or even three monitors. It really can increase your productivity. With the popularity of flat screen monitors you don’t have to worry so much about how much space your monitors will take.
If you haven’t yet invested in high speed internet, do so. You can get by with dialup, but it will slow you down quite a bit at times. I recommend cable internet if it is available in your area, but some prefer DSL. DSL is more widely available than it used to be, but is generally not as fast. It may be cheaper than cable, however. Watch out for contract terms so that you don’t get stuck with something you can’t live with.
A telephone line separate from your home’s main line is a must to keep things professional. This can be either a land line or a cell phone, depending on your preferences. Make sure you have an answering machine or voice mail that sounds professional to handle those calls you can’t take.
If you are going to need to send faxes, a fax machine is one option. However, if you already own a computer scanner you can use it and hook your computer up to your phone line to send faxes, so long as your computer comes with a fax modem. Consider which will work best for your circumstances.
Office supplies such as pens and paper will depend on what you are doing and how you prefer to work. If you’re a freelance writer, you may prefer jotting ideas down on paper or you might keep all your notes on your computer, for example.
Pretty much everyone will need a file cabinet. There are plenty of things you will need to keep filed; check stubs, tax records, legal paperwork and so forth.
Think ergonomic when you go for your desk and chair. Suffering from carpal tunnel can ruin your abilities as a freelancer. Get a good desk and a good chair with armrests. Read up on ergonomics.

So if you want your wrought iron wall accents to last long, you should also do your part by maintaining them properly.
What do you need to do to make them last? Here are but a few simple yet effective things that you can do.
1. As much as you can, prevent hanging your pieces where they are susceptible to humidity and moisture. This is important because these factors can easily speed up the development of rust. If you want to place some wrought iron pieces outside of your home, choose specific accessories that are meant for the outdoors as they are covered with a thicker layer of protective cover and/ or paint, making them more weather resistant.2. Take time to clean your home accessories at least once every two weeks. Cleaning your wrought iron pieces is not exactly hard. You just need to wash off the accumulated dust with soap and water. After that, you can completely dry off the item with the use of a soft wash cloth or letting them dry under the sun. Applying a metal gloss is not necessary but you may do this if you want your pieces to maintain a slight sheen or luster. 3. While cleaning your metal wall grille, check if the protective layer is chipping. If you find some exposed areas, feel free to retouch them with paint. This is necessary because more often, rust starts from the areas that are not covered.4. If you are planning to take them off the wall for keeping, clean them and store them in a cool and dry place. Wrapping them individually with newspaper will also help prevent accumulation of moisture. If are ready to use them again, make sure to check for chipping layers and paint again prior to hanging.

Have you been watching the news lately? Well, if you have watched the TV, listened to the radio, picked up a newspaper or really just gone about your daily life, you’ve been inundated with the doom and gloom!
According to everyone you talk to we are definitely in a “recession”. And it feels like one with prices soaring and industries everywhere cutting back or downsizing. Can anyone really feel safe in their current job or with their current financial situation?
First, let me say I agree that things are not as good as they were a few years ago. We have definitely hit a downturn. But before you throw in the towel, look at what you still have. We live in the greatest country in the world. Compare your “hard” life right now with some people in the world who are worrying about just getting enough to eat so they literally don’t starve to death. Yes, maybe we can’t buy that new plasma screen this year or we have to eat at home or not get our Starbucks for awhile, but we still have OPPORTUNITY.
We, as Americans, have the opportunity to improve our situation. We are not doomed forever. The economy will turn around as it always has. So take this ‘recession’ as an opportunity to change your life for the better. Some of the largest fortunes have been made during times of economic downturns.
Whether you have been hit hard or just a little by this latest downturn, I don’t think anyone would complain about making a few hundred extra dollars every month or saving hundreds or even thousands on their taxes at the end of the year.
Creating a Home Office might be the best decision you could ever make. In today’s rapidly changing economy, many people are realizing that their dream of having one job or one career is an illusion. Companies continue to downsize and capsize and they are doing it more now than ever before. Just look around your neighborhood stores to see some of the big chains closing.
